To access your instance remotely

  1. Add rules to the default security group:

    1. Permit ICMP (ping):

      $ nova secgroup-add-rule default icmp -1 -1 0.0.0.0/0
      +-------------+-----------+---------+-----------+--------------+
      | IP Protocol | From Port | To Port | IP Range | Source Group |
      +-------------+-----------+---------+-----------+--------------+
      | icmp        | -1        | -1      | 0.0.0.0/0 |              |
      +-------------+-----------+---------+-----------+--------------+

    2. Permit secure shell (SSH) access:

      $ nova secgroup-add-rule default tcp 22 22 0.0.0.0/0
      +-------------+-----------+---------+-----------+--------------+
      | IP Protocol | From Port | To Port | IP Range | Source Group |
      +-------------+-----------+---------+-----------+--------------+
      | tcp         | 22        | 22      | 0.0.0.0/0 |              |
      +-------------+-----------+---------+-----------+--------------+

  2. Create a floating IP address on the ext-net external network:

    $ neutron floatingip-create ext-net
    Created a new floatingip:
